Scouting for Food Drive is Arlington Food Assistance Center's (AFAC) largest single-day food drive. This partnership has collected over 1 million pounds of food since 1995. Each year, Scouting for Food is held on the second Saturday of every November.
To prepare for this event, Scout volunteers sort them go door to door and distribute bags to houses on their routes on a Saturday so that residents can gather non-perishable food to donate. On the following Saturday, Scouts return to their routes, gather the food donations, and deliver them to AFAC where volunteers stock the shelves and prepare the food for distribution.
The foods AFAC needs most are low-sodium and low-sugar:
• Canned soups • Canned vegetables
• Canned beans • Low sugar cereal
• Canned proteins (tuna, chicken, salmon) • Peanut butter in plastic jars
• Canned tomato products • Cooking oil in plastic bottles
*Please do not donate perishable food, glass jars, expired food, or household items. *
