Spring Campout
17-18 May 2025
17-18 May 2025
WHAT: A family camping experience for Scout families.
WHEN: Saturday, May 17th, at 12:30pm to Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at 12pm.
WHERE: Greenbelt Park Campground inside the Greenbelt National Park, 6565 Greenbelt Road Greenbelt, Maryland 20770. Use this address to set your GPS. Take Exit 23 Route 201 Kenilworth Avenue South (toward Bladensburg)(this will be a left). Drive on Kenilworth Avenue (Route 201). Once crossing over I-95, you will see a sign for Route 193 Greenbelt Road. Veer right to Take Route 193 East. Take a left on Greenbelt Road (Greenbelt Road is Route 193 and is an overpass over Route 201). The park entrance is a quarter mile on the right hand side of Greenbelt Road. The campground is located two miles from the park entrance. Park entrance is free. Please limit to one vehicle per family and consider carpooling as only two cars are permitted per site. Drive time is about 30-40 minutes. Camping details: We have reserved Loop A Sites A01, 02, 04, 06, 08, 31, 32, 33. Plan for 2-3 tents per site. Each site has a picnic table, grill, and lantern post. There are hot showers, bathroom facilities, and a dump station available.
Food: Each family should bring and prepare their own food for all meals. At a minimum, bring your dinner for Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday, plus any snacks. Each family must bring its own plates, bowls, utensils, cups, coffee mugs, napkins, etc. While a water fountain is available near the campsites, please bring plenty of drinking water. We will not be roasting s’mores at a central location, so please do this at your individual campfires before the pack campfire. See "Camping" under Resources tab for additional information.
Activities: All activities will be organized by Dens or families.
One idea is to stop at the Visitor Center on your way in and pick up a Junior Ranger workbook to earn a Junior Ranger badge. The activities take 1-2 hours to complete. When finished, go back to the Ranger Station (8am to 3:45pm, daily) to be sworn in as a Junior Ranger and get an official badge.
There are also several trails to satisfy adventure requirements.
The only Pack activity will be the Campfire Saturday night at 7:00 - we’ll announce the location that evening. We recommend you bring folding chairs. Dens are asked to prepare one skit and one song to perform. There is an optional second campfire at 8pm hosted by the Park Service to learn about George Washington and the Washington Monument. It will be held at the campfire circle in the Loop-B campground.
